From Meir, travel along Sandon Road (A520) towards Meir Heath. At Meir Heath, turn left onto Hilderstone Road (B5066) and continue past the Windmill Pub towards Hilderstone.

At the T-junction in Hilderstone, turn right towards Sandon and continue to the crossroads. At the crossroads, turn left onto the B5027 towards Uttoxeter.

Follow the B5027 through Milwich and continue towards Field. Approximately five and a half miles from the crossroads, you will reach a road bridge. This bridge marks the start of the club’s stretch of the River Blythe.

River Trent
River stretch

River Trent

Directions

Starting at Meir, go up Sandon Road to Meir Heath at the top, turn left past the Windmill Pub and go along the B5066 Hilderstone Road until you reach the T-junction at Hilderstone, then turn right.

Follow this road through the crossroads and on to the junction at Sandon, then turn left along the A51 Lichfield–Rugeley road. Continue through Sandon to the traffic lights at Weston, carry straight on to Hixon, and continue until you reach Ed Wheeltman’s Garage on your left at Pasturefields.

The River Trent is over the canal bridge on your right. Parking for this stretch of the River Trent is opposite the garage and over the canal bridge. Please park sensibly so vehicles can get past.

At the time of going to press, Mr Vernon, the owner of the stretch of the Trent, has had to put locks on all of his gates because of his valuable livestock. This means members will have to climb carefully over his gate to get to the river.

The stretch is for two fields down and meanders on for several hundred metres. It ends at Hoo Mill Bridge Lane.

You can also access the river by coming down this lane, which is further down the A51 and is the next lane on the right after Ed Wheeltman’s Garage. You need to drive along the lane, over the canal bridge and down the one track lane between the fields to the river bridge at Hoo Mill.

If you are challenged by the owner of the lock keeper’s cottage just over the canal bridge on your right, we have been advised that you refer him to Mr Vernon. As always, please park considerately.
